The author tends to give intense atmosphere when something is about to happens. But sometimes he just give intense feeling where nothing happens at all, it seems like he wants us to feel the same way Braille felt when he confront the warden.

The author wants us to experience fear. The story itself is not horror or frightening, but the main character's choice to act in situations is really messed up and most of the people wouldn't make such a choice. It's pretty intense whether or not the main character will die, because there's one time his friend warned him that "If you do that, you'll surely get shot".

The author usually put Braille in such a depressing situation. He's always in situations where he need to make a good choice or else he might die right there, and there's one time where he made a wrong choice too! I think that the author like this character because he survived in such an arrogant act that should have his head blown off but instead he survived everytime.

This project
has helped me with my reading. I always feel like not reading anything that isn’t
required in subjects and has longer than 10 words a page, but this project
pushes me, and let me achieve what I thought I wouldn’t do throughout my life.
It grants me ability to read and take note what’s important, reread the hard
part and be able to comprehend words clearer than ever. This project also makes
me acknowledge that some books are actually fun and should be read and some are
even addictive. The book that I chose is called “Elijah Of Buxton” and when I
first saw it in the library I was like “why is this kid book in the library”,
but then when I actually read it, it was fun and addictive, though a little bit
stupid storyline but speak plainly, it’s good. I never thought that a thick
book could be so interesting, and I felt like there’s a feather blinding me all
this time, after this project has ended I think I will find some times, and sit
quietly, in a peaceful place, pick up some books, and read it with smile on the
face of mine.
The main character of Elijah of
Buxton is Elijah. He’s a black boy who was born free and hasn’t faced any
cruelty in his life yet. Elijah seems to have no interest in anything, or
anyone, he’s just like ordinary 10 years old boy, all he wanted to do is having
fun. Throughout the story, in every chapter, Elijah has learned something new
to him, something that seems to be a very important thing for him in future
such as bravery, honesty, strength, and humor. He personally likes mystery
thing even though his parent doesn’t like him to go somewhere far. The first
thing I saw as what Eli wanted to
accomplish is almost at the end of the story, he wants to help slaves, and with
his power alone, he can’t do anything, not even sneaking in undetected, so he
gathered his brave and told adults in the settlement to went there and help the
slaves. This action has shown that what he has learned in the fore chapter, he
applied it nicely and beautifully. What I think is the most important thing that
motivates him is how rough and cruel the world can be, he once saw person died
before him, he saw slavery and he saw robbery. So those events must be the
things that has push him this far to be able to do what is right and not to
stray from the rightful things. Although I think that this kid sometimes
imagining things, like someone pushes him, someone is hiding and tried to kill
him and stuff, although many might called cowardice but I would called it
premonition (even though most of the times, he’s wrong). His dreams have never
been clarify because he has never talked about them to anyone, and neither his
goals nor motives, but we can read and sense those in the story.
At some point between last chpter and this chapter, Mr. Leroy's family has been kidnapped and he was determined to gave money to be able to free them. Anyways in the chapter he is going to make Ms. Holston happy by giving her a present that should reminds her of Mr. Holston. In the end they ended up giving a wood-carving with a lovely statement on it. So Ms. Holston gave him gold for him to pay for his family.
Even though Mr. Leroy already had money enough to pay for his family, but he still had no idea how will he get them back since he cant arranged a meeting or anything. Mr. Preacher came in time like he was waiting for this moment and he then claimed that he can actually arranged a meeting with those guys and with only 100 extra bucks for travelling. Mr. Leroy then make his mind to trust him and then gave a money to him without hesitation. Pa said he has a bad feeling about this.
The Preacher really did it! he stole the money and left. When Pa and Eli knew about it they were really shocked but when Mr.Leroy knew it. He wasn't shock in one bit but instead he was furious as fire he grabbed his axe and ready to cut up Eli into two. He push Eli's head down to the ground.
Pa said what are you trying to do and pull me up. Mr.Leroy wasn't really going to kill him but Eli once again thought about it by himself. They got a piece of information that Preacher is in the forest so they folllowed him there and in the forest, Eli felt that someone was there watching them and he felt like somebody grabbed his collar.
It was just a chunk of stone but what really concern him now was that Mr. Leroy called him to talk to him. Mr. Leroy then ask for Eli's help to guide him because he was lost. They then plan to go to Michican ( though Eli thinks it's more like a kidnap) and find the preacher's location and get Mr. Leroy's money back.
Mr. Leroy somehow gather information near the gambling area and he found out that preacher was now in the east part of America and he's going where the slaver is. They again got on the jingle bell and roll along the road. Mr. Leroy's limit has come where his stress surpass his mind and he can't even move one bit, blood came out of nose and mouth and then he slowly began to stay still, so the driver promise to take Mr.Leroy to Eli's aunt and Eli will gather some people from Buxton to go and get that preacher.
As he running along the way he was a barn and he thought that maybe he could find some water for him to drink. And he found a slave woman and child there, they're born slave and they weren't even one time being able to free themselves because they're in America. So Eli told them that in Canada, there's no more slave, they're all free there so These Mother-child decided to go to Buxton and start a new life as a free one.
They had a little chit-chat about what's goin on in Buxton and then some people came inside, but fortunately it was those gambler which was giving information in Michican. They said that preacher is dead and was hanged in the stable. Eli told them that they all should go and try to rescue slaves there but they refused because they knew it better than Eli that if they do it now it would be a futile.
So Eli came back to this Woman alone and there he talked a little more ( I'm curious why didn't he just take her out ) So the woman said that this girl is Eli's daughter but it happened long time ago so now she's planning that Eli should take her and let she sees Pa so she won't ended up having a tragic life like her. So they came back to Buxton. At there Mr. Douglas has done some miracle he has brought some of the villagers and attack the slaver's camp and steal the money back for Mr. Leroy.
the end has said "There's always a hope in Buxton"

Elijah came back home after fishing with 6 fish and he shared to Mrs. Brown and Mr. Leroy because he has promised them to hand them fishes. In this chapter nothing much has happen, or it should be seen as nothing at all will stir up some conflict in later chapter, but it shows that Elijah is learning more and more about life.
The next chapter is about Mr.Travis trying to taught some manner to these kids, because he didn't like the way Cooter address him at the sawmill. I can sense that somehow Mr. Travis wasn't teaching about it much but he sure was angry at Cooter for being disrespectful.
Later that day, Elijah worked with Mr. Leroy until dark and they walked back together. While doing so, Elijah talked to him about many things and when he said the word "Niggah", Mr. Leroy was very pissed and taught some serious lesson to Eli that this word is a cold, harsh word that could penetrate through any former slaves' heart and make them angry.
The preacher took Eli to the circus but Eli wasn't totally convinced but the preacher convinced him about how awesome would it be so in the end he accepted to go with preacher. At there he saw a show where one woman shoot a slingshot to anything accurately and he saw "Jimmy", one of his schoolmate, there in the show too. And after that the preacher took Eli to meet other person.
In the next show Eli watched, there's a stranger white kid sat next to him and told him about that there's Elijah of Chatham and he didn't like to see any body to have the same name with him. This shows that racism is still there even though there's no more slave but still, people tends to stick to the way they used to be.
The next story is pretty interesting. Preacher brought Eli to the camp's owner and the preacher show off Eli's skill of throwing rocks to him and want to let him pay some wages for traveling with them and showing the skills. After that night in the Monday's morning, McWee told Eli and other students that the preacher is actually a theif and steal the circus' money and kidnap him to here. This is a twist in a story which most of the reader might not seen even a foreshadow of preacher's true color before.
The next chapter is about Mr.Travis trying to taught some manner to these kids, because he didn't like the way Cooter address him at the sawmill. I can sense that somehow Mr. Travis wasn't teaching about it much but he sure was angry at Cooter for being disrespectful.
Later that day, Elijah worked with Mr. Leroy until dark and they walked back together. While doing so, Elijah talked to him about many things and when he said the word "Niggah", Mr. Leroy was very pissed and taught some serious lesson to Eli that this word is a cold, harsh word that could penetrate through any former slaves' heart and make them angry.
The preacher took Eli to the circus but Eli wasn't totally convinced but the preacher convinced him about how awesome would it be so in the end he accepted to go with preacher. At there he saw a show where one woman shoot a slingshot to anything accurately and he saw "Jimmy", one of his schoolmate, there in the show too. And after that the preacher took Eli to meet other person.
In the next show Eli watched, there's a stranger white kid sat next to him and told him about that there's Elijah of Chatham and he didn't like to see any body to have the same name with him. This shows that racism is still there even though there's no more slave but still, people tends to stick to the way they used to be.

One day, Cooter told Eli that he saw some mystery and it's about strange track that Eli didn't have a single clue what it is. After that he told his Pa about it and he said it's a hoop snake and it's very dangerous, it roll like a hoop and run after people and its poison is the worst. Eli and Cooter ran home without a second thought and Ma scolded him about how coward he was. So this has lit the idea of how he will be in the later chapter that he would be more brave.
After that Eli's parents taught him a scary lesson which was not to be so fragile but in the end, it seemed it was only a joke they wanted to play
There'd be one time that Mr. Douglas visited Buston. Mr. Douglas was a wise man hat cacn speak fluently. At that party Elicaused havoc that brought wild creatures to the Settlement. But later Ma told him that it's jsut a joke that they're making on him.
Eli had to finished the chore first before he can went out and fish. He manage to finished killing horsefly the last because he would use it as bait for catching fish and he fish by stoning them not using string or hook. But after that Preacher fooled him and brought 4 of his fishes home.
The story reached the rising action because of some of people were captured by white men and while they're searching for them, preacher said that he found them and took a gun from them. But Eli thought that why did preacher found only 1 gun because there's no way that only one person brought a gun. But Eli kept this as a secret to himself.

The place I like the most is a place where I can feel relax, safe, and comfortable. And there's only one place in this world where it holds all these attributes altogether, and that's my room
No matter how many time I had come to my own room, I will not get bored, I felt familiar to this place even much more than my home itself. It gave me a classic look, even though the walls are all white and the floor is plain wooden, still it game me an adorable sense every time I walk into it. The texture gibes me the sense of how people's life is, for example, I went into my friend's room and there's some sort of droll black and white poster, it gives me chill through my spine, and later on I learn that he's a death metal fans.
As long as I'm in my own room, it gives me a sense of safety, which never disappoint me. I believe that everybody's the same, they also feel safe when they're in their own room. The reasons are simple, like me when I'm in my own room, I know every corners of my room. There won't be any suspicious creatures coming or anything because I know my place.
And the unwhimsical reasons why I like my room as the best place I'm ever been because it's comfortable and relaxing. As I walked into my room I opened a song, untied my shoelaces, take off my school homogeneous and laid down on my bed, it extricates from chain of this world's chastisement, to take off your burden and lay down comfortably. The silence make my heart calm down, my thought vanish, and the music gives me a smile on my cheek, which unfortunately only happens only on weekends because there're too much homework on normal schooldays.
I'm in grade 10, and there're still 2-3 years left before I graduate from EIS. And the only place where I can be myself and lift this heaviness of study off my shoulder for a while is my room.
